These are pics of a massive project that The Alley Gallery did a couple months ago, and it put us to the test! We passed, and had fun doing it to boot! The canvas is 6 by 15 feet! Perimeter Gallery’s artist Keiko Hara painted this ambitious work of art. Perimeter Gallery wanted the stretcher to safely fold for storage, which added to the difficulty of the project. Keiko’s piece is now on display in the rear gallery at Perimeter. Check it out this Friday, April 19th, 2013 at the opening of new works by Don Pollack.

The painting is wrapped around the gigantic tube.

This is a shot of the canvas face down preparing to be stapled to the stretcher bars.

Here’s the work mid-stretch.

The painting waiting for it’s moving van to pick it up.

Bye bye painting!! Job well done!

These 5 African Scrolls posed some unique challenges. The paintings were on very thin cloth and attached to hand-carved dowels on the top and bottom. We wanted to protect their delicate construction while maintaining an ideal visual display. We settled on a way to nest the dowels in the backing fabric so there was no risk of movement and raised the paintings above to create a shadow effect. The entire piece (over 5ft. long!) is protected by UV acrylic for longevity and surrounded by an olive-wood veneered frame to compliment the rustic dowels.
